Recommended Starter Equipment

Please visit your favorite local hobby shop (Interior Hobbies is great) to purchase any of the following recommended starter equipment. If you don’t have a favorite hobby shop, please don’t hesitate to contact us for recommendations. Remember, you do not need to purchase any equipment to try flying with us.

Aircraft

  • Ready to Fly (RTF) bundles includes everything except spare batteries.
  • Bind and Fly (BNF) require you to bind your own DSMX compatible radio to the aircraft and purchase spare batteries.
  • Receiver-Ready (Rx-R) requires you to bind your own SLT compatible radio to the airplane and purchase spare batteries.
  • Almost Ready to Fly (ARF) aka Transmitter-Ready (Tx-R) labeled aircraft require you to install your own receiver of choice and purchase spare batteries.

Radios

There is no need to have a different radio for each plane you own. If you invest into a good quality digital radio such as a Spektrum DX6, you can safely use it for years with all of your model airplanes and helicopters.  Please be aware that some of the starter radios bundled with “Ready to Fly” kits can only be used to fly that particular aircraft which is cheaper at first, but costly in the long run.

Spektrum DX6 – Great feature to dollar ratio with excellent Bind and Fly aircraft selection.

Batteries / Accessories

Turnigy Nano-Tech Lipo Batteries – Good quality and great value. Higher “C” ratings means more power (30C+ recommended).
Lipo Charge/Storage Bags – Lithium polymer (LiPo) batteries are very powerful. Please treat them with care and respect.
